Frequently Asked Questions

Depending on the waves we will be at a few different locations, all located on North Shore of Oahu. This will be discussed prior to booking. For beginner surf lessons Puaena Point (winter location) Chuns Reef (summer location) 3 miles apart. For advance lessons we go to wherever the waves are best suited for the student.
There are many reasons. We teach you to surf in a cove protected from the larger waves that the North Shore of Oahu is famous for. The water is cleaner then Waikiki, and the beaches are real. The crowds are also substantially lighter and friendlier than in Waikiki. The North Shore is the SURFING CAPITOL of the WORLD; learning to surf out here is about as authentic as it gets.
Sun screen, bathing suit, we provide lycra rash guards but if you prefer to wear your own or bring your own wetsuit that fine.
No Problem! We know plans change just, give us a call and we can reschedule/cancel surf lesson. Reservations for all lessons must be canceled 48 hours in advanced or a 100% charge will apply.
We would recommend arriving a little early (perhaps 10-15 minutes before surf lesson). Traffic can get really bad in Hawaii especially during the winter peak season. Get there a little ahead of time, that way we can get you signed in and ready to go when your lesson starts.
Yes. On bigger days, we teach you to surf in a cove protected from the larger open ocean swells. We evaluate the surf each day and take you to the safest & most fun location for your surfing lesson.
Beginner classes are set at a competitive price at $100 per person, but if you want to take several private or advance lessons message us directly. Depending on availability and staff we maybe able to accommodate something that fits your needs
We teach students as young as four years of age and up to any age. We do require anyone under six years old to book one of our private or tandem lessons.
Yes, but if this is your first time taking a surfing lesson, we suggest you use our boards, they have soft tops and are specially made for learning how to surf.
Our group lessons start at three people and never exceed a 4:1 (four students to instructor) ratio.
Yes, tips are much appreciated by our surf instructors.
The North Shore is blessed because there are safe ridable waves virtually every day. In the Summer, when it’s smaller, there is a trade wind-generated swell that wraps around the coast bringing safe and fun 1-2 foot waves. And of course, in the Winter, when the surf is larger, we teach in a protected cove where the waves are much smaller. In the rare case of ocean conditions being un-rideable, we can reschedule your surfing lesson or refund your lesson.
Hawaii’s near-shore water temperatures remain comfortable throughout the year. The average water temperature is 74º F. (23.3 C), with a summer high of 80º F. (26.7º C).
The average daytime summer temperature at sea level is 85º F. (29.4 C), while the average daytime winter temperature is 78º (25.6º C).
Seeing is, of course, helpful when learning to surf, although perfect vision is not required. We recommend that you bring an extra set of contacts in case you lose one or both. However, people who use contacts don’t lose them if they kept their eyes closed underwater.
Yes, it’s not a problem! We teach in the rain since we will be getting wet anyway.
Yes. It is included with all surfing lessons
Unfortunately, we do not provide transportation. However, we strongly suggest you rent a car, it’s the best way to see the island. Oahu also allows rideshares including Uber and Lyft, prices are between $100 and $50. We also have a public transportation system known as The Bus. It only costs $2.75 each way but it is very slow. Ask your hotel concierge for scheduling information
Parking is generally safe where we teach surf lessons and we can hold your keys for you while you’re out in the water. Like anyplace else, we would recommend keeping valuables and other items back at a hotel or other secure place just to avoid any mishaps
We really appreciate reviews. If you would like to recommend us, the most popular sites we are found on are TripAdvisor, Yelp and Google. If you have feedback or concerns and would like to contact us, we’ll do everything we can to help you. Thanks for helping others find our business!
Most people will be able to stand up on their first surfing lesson, and some people will be able to catch waves by themselves by the end of the first lesson with coaching of course. However, learning how to read waves, when, and where to paddle into them takes time!
We guarantee you a great and safe time. You will be up and riding like a pro surfer in no time! Getting taught by real locals and pros!
